The Haunting of Girlstown
The article calledThe Haunting of Girlstown is about the series of unfortunate events that occurred at a conservative Catholic boarding school called "Girlstown." Ouija boards, sliced off finger, blood, illusion of Virgin Mary, and curse that spread like disease... The article is full of mysterious occurrences that are yet to be explained.
To best exhibit them, I used the Ouija board as the eye and the flesh showing through the cut off finger, and placed bloody image of demon below the Virgin Mary's statue.
I mimicked the same color schemes of red, white, and black from the article, since the contrast and the atmosphere that was created through those colors was as impactful and bold as the story.
I Hope Our Daughters Will Not Be Punished
I Hope Our Daughters Will Not Be Punished is an article about the tragic reality of women in color suffering from unjust legal systems that criminalizes them. The article contains number of different interviews of the women in prison, and their experience with the criminal justice system.I used the Lady Justice statue to symbolize justice system, and had her weigh the two figures. They represent those who were incarcerated without having their inevitable circumstances considered. The scale has male symbols attached at the top to imply how most of the figures that incarcerated the women were white male.
